Lovejoy Local Recap: What was Lovejoy up to in January & February?
Lovejoy fans have a pretty large amount of patience – even if it seems to be running thin. With listeners jumping at the ‘S’ (soon) word, fans are all but foaming at the mouth waiting for new Lovejoy material.
Whether it be something simple like a new Instagram grid post, or god forbid, new music, Lovejoy seems to be relatively quiet on the surface. The band released their single “I’ll Look Good When I’m Sober” back in August of 2024, with “Normal People Things” debuting in October of 2023.
But, they haven’t been completely and utterly silent – just very quiet. They did post an Instagram grid post in January in the band’s new signature iPhone 3 style photographs and announced that they would be playing Summerfest.
But, the one platform Lovejoy seems to be most active on – which most people aren’t privy to – is Reddit. The band’s official fan subreddit is ripe with fan activity as they communicate with fans, both seriously, and in a joking manner. Ash Kabosu and Will Gold appear to be the most active on the site, often responding to fan’s queries regarding a new album.
And while Kabosu took a more… humorous approach to the fan’s question as to where the upcoming is, Gold decided for a thoughtful response.
“This is a really good question… I wouldn’t worry, the album has been our goal since we started the band in 2021 and every step we’ve taken on the way has been to refine and find our sound leading up to this moment.
The pressure I feel is entirely from myself, I want to write something that matters to me about the things that evoke genuine intense emotion in me and hopefully you too. I know how important this album is for us and I feel that my desperation to create something meaningful oozes in the lyrics. I’m so excited for you to hear it.
I hope people won’t hate it, but I’d be more worried if I felt we were rushing or pandering to an audience. That would make us hate it, something far worse than any hate could bring.
Creation is scary and having your creation seen by people is even scarier but what is meaning without those scary moments?”
So, there is an album – Gold referred to a possible album as “the album” – but that’s all we know.
